When it comes to certain plastic surgery procedures, there may be a minimum age recommended or required, but is it possible to be “too old” to consider breast implants? Not necessarily. Mothers looking to enhance their look later in life can rest assured that their age is less of a concern – overall health is always more important than a person’s age when deciding candidacy. Many of my patients wait until their children are a bit older before considering a mommy makeover, so it is not uncommon for them to be in their 50s. Although these women are usually still eligible for breast augmentation, it is important to note that if they have had multiple pregnancies prior to considering surgery, their breasts may have experienced a loss of volume as a result. In these cases, I may recommend a breast lift in addition to augmentation.
Remember that all patients are different, so determining candidacy for breast augmentation or any other plastic surgery procedure is best determined in a consultation with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. In consultations with my patients, I can conduct a thorough examination and review their medical history to help recommend the safest and most beneficial treatment options. Although the risks associated with most surgeries are generally the same for anyone who is healthy, weighing the benefits against the potential risks can ultimately assist patients in deciding if cosmetic surgery is right for them.
