If you have lost a significant amount of weight either due to diet and exercise or bariatric surgery, you may be considering body contouring procedures to eliminate the excess skin that has resulted. Many patients seeking post weight loss surgery are curious to know how much weight they need to lose prior to body contouring. There is no magic number, but you should be as close to your ideal weight as possible. Your weight should remain stable (within five pounds) for at least six months prior to the procedure, and you should not be expecting to lose more weight. To maximize results, I also recommend that patients wait until at least two years after the start of their dramatic weight loss before considering surgery. Giving your body extra time to acclimate to the change can help stabilize your overall health, as well as allow the skin to naturally re-contour to your new body as much as possible.
Ultimately, my goal is to help my patients maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle.
